Hello Visitor!!! You are on WEBMASTER MONEY site because you would like to make money online and start your own online business. Yes, here are the best webmaster affiliate programs that are helping me to make money online on the Internet. You can try to understand how Internet marketing and online business works and make money online too. You can begin making money online with our affiliate programs and Affiliate marketing articles instantly. On the left you see menu with categories where you find affiliate programs for your needs.

As you add content to your site wouldn’t it be nice if it:
* Was highly relevant to your content?
* Was written for you so you could be doing other things?
* The type content that the Search Engines would rank high?
* Content that was constantly fresh and relevant for your visitors?
* The type content that makes visitors want to come back everyday to read?

If you can answer yes to just some of the above questions then you need to read on. This is a little trick I learned that only took me about five minutes to implement. With the reverse linking method I used and with this method I was able to get my page rank, with Google, from zero to 2/10 within one week of re-submitting my home page to Google.

Everywhere you turn people are talking about “RSS” feeds and “Blogs”. What if I could show you how to add an RSS feed to your site – with just a few lines of code and couple clicks of teh mouse? And what if this news feed constantly updated itself and was written just for your site? Interested?

Here’s how you can do it.

Go to the site www.AnyRSS.org and follow the simple directions. The “AnyRSS” is a simple but very powerful tool allowing you to generate custom RSS news feeds for any Niche subject and posting them on your site. To use the tool enter one to three, of your selected keywords, in the search box and click on the button “Generate Feed Url”.

In the first box is an url and in the 2nd box is a snippet of “JavaScript” code. Click the “Test It” button and look at the results it produces. If this is satisfactory then go back and copy the “url” and the JavaScript code to a blank text editor like notepad. Save this information – and remember what directory you saved it in.

Go to your site and decide on what page and where on that page you want the feed to be placed. If you are using just the link then write the “url” link information. Cut and paste, or upload, the link to your site. Remember with this option your visitors will have to “click” on the link to see the information and it will be in a new window AND they have left your site temporarily.

I recommend the JavaScript code as it is more dynamic and the visitor can “read” the news on your page without “clicking” anything OR leaving your site! If you want to use the JavaScript simply cut and paste the code to the area on your page where you want it to appear and save it. If you are using Front Page, or DreamWeaver, to write your own pages, then you should already know how to insert new code into your pages.

This feed is changed every 12 hours, sometimes more often. The great part is your visitors do not need any special “readers”, etc. to read this information. And, like I said it, is extremely relevant, and free content, for your site. The best of BOTH worlds!

You Deserve Success,

By testing, literally hundreds of methods, he has developed several methods that even newbies can use to get good rankings for their websites.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, an outbound link is a url that you have on your site that points to another website.
In today’s Google PR obsessed Internet world, everyone is completely focusing on getting in bound links to your site. While you should always be on a mission to get more sites to link to yours, you must not forget their polar opposites.

Remember, by having outbound links from your site, you are in essence “voting” for the site you link to. This is part of the entire ranking algorithm process for all the search engines. The idea is, that if two sites are similar in content and design, a site with more links pointing to it would be considered more important by the search engine.

So then, why should you help out any other site? Actually, by carefully linking to other relevant sites, you are increasing the relevancy of your own site.

Pretend I have a pizza shop, and I am located in Anywhere, USA. It’s a typical site that displays types of pizza, store location, hours, and coupons. I also know the power of outbound linking. For this case, I am going to link to 10 sites: Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Little Ceaser’s & Papa Johns. Next, I link to 6 sites that are physically located in Anywhere, USA. (And their physical addresses are listed on their sites.)

Now, I will switch roles and view the site as a search engine spider. I navigate through the site, and determine that this site is about pizza. Then I find a resource page and discover some well-known links (Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Little Ceaser’s & Papa Johns – and as the spider I know that these are major players in the realm of pizza). Next, I find 6 links to sites located in Anywhere, USA.

So, as a happy spider leaving the site, I now know that the site I just visited is about pizza (site content and links to the major players of the pizza industry), and that it is located in Anywhere, USA.

Next, I visit one of the 6 sites listed as a resource in Anywhere, USA. I find the local address, and it has the same zip code as the pizza site I was just at. Now I know how these two sites are related to each other.

Taking into account the fact that this local pizza shop has also linked to the major pizza chains, as the spider, I am lead to believe that this shop has relevancy to the zip code of Anywhere, USA.

So, as the spider returns the information to the database to be processed in the algorithm, it has pre-sorted some search results based on the links your site points to.

Another benefit of outbound linking is Geo Targeting, or Local search. There is a lot of speculation that local search is the next big trend in Search Marketing. While only time will tell, it won’t hurt to have your physical address listed on your website for those who will be embracing local search.

As an experiment, I created a site with a very unique url (to avoid the possibility of people finding it by accident), and I made it only 1 page long. The only thing the page consisted of were 80+ outbound links to relevant sites in the SEO industry, tools, forums and some tutorials. When the PageRank was first updated for the site, it came out of the box with a PR of 3. It has since fallen to a PR of 2 (now that I’ve pointed a few sites to it!).

The whole point of this experiment was to see how outbound links affect your own rankings of your site. I was able to generate a PR of 2 based entirely on linking to authority sites in the SEO industry. So, take the time to link to some relevant sites, the big names (if any), and enjoy the power of the easy, outbound link.

Search engine optimization can be broken down into two separate yet intertwined categories. Non-organic or paid search optimization and organic, or unpaid search optimization. Paid search advertising relies on purchased search phrases to drive visitors to a website, while organic search optimization focuses on developing web sites that are naturally search engine friendly and appear in the unpaid or “organic” search engine results pages. (SERPS)

Successful organic optimization combines technical know-how with persuasive marketing.

Organically optimized web sites contain content that visitors find informative and relevant to their searches. Content is further optimized for search engines by incorporating relevant key phrases or words into the site’s literature.

Organic optimization is holistic in approach. Every aspect of a web site is analysed for it’s level of search friendliness. Aspects like the site’s title, meta-tags, editorial copy, structure and design, usability and function are all taken into consideration. These aspects and many others are equally considered when optimizing a web site. There are, however four main points of interest:

1. Key Phrases:
One of the first steps in organic optimization is determining which key phrases are to be targeted. This is determined by researching which words or phrases a target audience is most likely to search for. These target keywords are then incorporated into the title, description and content of a web site.

It is important to note that the overuse of keywords in a web site can result in a search engine’s indexing software to considering a site as abusing or spamming the search engine and can result in that site being removed from the search index.

Generally a key word should appear five to eight times within a site’s editorial content and content should consist of between 200 and 400 words.

2. Site Structure
Search engines are somewhat limited in the way they can index a web site. Search engine robots or spiders are chiefly concerned with determining two things, what is this web site all about and where should this site show up in the search engine results. Often the way in which a web site is constructed can have negative results in how effective these search spiders are.

It is important to understand how search engine indexing works in order to create web sites which are fine tuned for optimal search results

Search spiders look primarily for text content when judging how a site is to be indexed. Sites which are built entirely of graphic elements or flash are not search friendly. Sites which feature an overuse of javascript and other dynamic content are not search friendly.

A multitude of factors are considered when optimizing for the search engines. Since different search engines follow different rules, and the rules often change, it is unlikely that every aspect of a web site will be perfectly matched to every search engine. The important thing to strive for is eliminating the elements of a site that are known to cause problems, and emphasizing as many search friendly aspects as possible.

3. Usability
A site which is difficult to navigate, slow to load, or leaves a user wondering exactly what the site is all about is a site that is not going to perform very well. The flow of information within a web site must be logical and intuitive. Optimizing a site for performance is critical to its overall level of success. After all, what is the point of having a web site that ranks well in search engines if nobody can use it?

4. Inbound Links:
The amount of inbound links to a web site has a direct effect on the search engine page ranking of the site. Virtually all of the popular search engines have methods of calculating the link popularity of any given site. This makes inbound links an important area of organic optimization. The quality of the inbound links can matter more than the quantity. Search engines place more importance on relevant links from sites which they consider to be authorities on any given key phrase. Search engines strive to provide the most relevant results possible by filtering out meaningless or “junk” links to a website. In some cases, large numbers of irrelevant inbound links are seen by the search engines as abuse or spamming. Practices such as “link farming” and “free-for-all” link pages are frowned upon.

As the popularity of paid search advertising grows so does the need for organic optimization. While paid search campaigns can offer short term exposure, organic optimization involves steady, long term results. And as the costs of paid search advertising continues to climb, organic optimization offers the assurance of appearing in search pages for natural searches.

By combining aspects of search engine technicalities, site structure and usablity, organic optimization not only focuses on search engine results but offers the end user of a site a quality experience.

Link popularity is the single most influential factor for determining how well a web site will perform in search engine rankings. A web site’s link popularity is computed from the number and more importantly, the quality of links pointing to a web site.

Link Popularity history

To gain a better understanding of link popularity it is useful to know why it became so crucial for search engine rankings. In the past a web page’s ranking was determined, amongst other factors, by the number of keyword occurences within ‘on-page’ elements i.e. in page text, META tags, title tag. When web developers learned that they could trick a search engine to return their web pages by cramming keywords into their pages the search engines had to get a bit smarter. They were using ‘on-page’ elements to determine relevance so it was only natural that they would look to elements out of direct control of the web page creator i.e. ‘off-page’ elements. Search engines made the assumption that the greater the number of links from other sites pointing to a web site, the more popular the web site is and therefore a more quality resource. This worked nicely in theory but in practice it was also to be abused.

Web site owners figured out many ways to get links pointing to their web sites one example of which was through the use of link farms, pages the contained nothing more than a collection of links, Quantity of links was being abused so the search engines made use of the old saying “quality not quantity” and began to assign a quality factor to each of the links pointing to a web site. Now web sites that had a higher number of high quality links were looked upon favourably by the search engines. Building link popularity became a science in itself and today is still the most time-consuming and frustrating activity for a search engine optimizer.

Main classes of links

Note: In the following examples SiteA is our web site and SiteB is an outside site (i.e. a web site under a different domain name than SiteA).

Inbound links:

Inbound links to a web site are links that originate from an outside web site. An example would be a link on SiteB pointing into a page on SiteA.

SiteA (—– SiteB

Outbound links:

Outbound links from a web site are links pointing to a page on an outside web site. An example would be a link on SiteA pointing out to a page on SiteB.

SiteA —–) SiteB

There are two further classifications of links:

Reciprocal links:

An example of a reciprocal link is when SiteA links to SiteB AND SiteB links to SiteA, the link is reciprocated by both parties.

SiteA —–) SiteB

AND

SiteA (—– SiteB

To achieve a high link popularity the type of links to build are inbound one-way links. This simulates how natural links are created i.e. links that people create to point to your site because they found it worth linking to.

For outbound links it is natural to assume that they might decrease link popularity of a web site but this is not true. You do not give away your link popularity when you link to another site. They do not add to your link popularity though.

Reciprocal links can add to your link popularity if the web site that you exchange links with has a higher link popularity than your site. However they are not as powerful as inbound, one-way links as they are quite artificial in nature i.e. most probably created by communication between the owners of both sites.

How to build link popularity

So it is quite obvious that to help build up a nice link popularity many inbound, one-way links need to be created. This can be achieved in a number of different (and most importantly, legal) ways:

Directories:

Directories are categorized listings of links from around the web. Many, many directories exist and vary in their methods of getting your link posted on them. They provide a great source of quality inbound, one-way links. Getting listed in quality directories such as DMOZ or Yahoo can be more beneficial for your link popularity than a lot of links from smaller, newer directories.

Great site content:

The most powerful way to get inbound, one-way links is to have great site content that other web sites will want to link to. This allows you to get links from sites other than directories, which can definitely be better. The best thing about this is that it requires no communication on your part, it just happens naturally. If your site has poor content then others sites may not link, including the directories. Most of the top ranking web sites today got to the top because of great content. Writing interesting and informative articles for your web site is a good way of getting these kind of links.

Emailing web site owners:

If you come across a listing of links on a web site other than a directory e.g. a links page on a somebody’s personal web site, it can do no harm to write the web site owner a polite email requesting a link to your site from their page. They may request a reciprocal link in return but sometimes they do not and you can get a quality inbound, one-way link for your efforts. I have got many links in the past using this method. In my email I always ask them to visit my site first before making a decision to link and I personalise each email with a comment or two about their site.

Summary

The best and most effective way of increasing your search engine rankings is working to improve your web site’s link popularity. This can be achieved by getting as many inbound, one-way links as you can from quality sites such as directories. Other ways to get these links are having great content on your site and requesting a link to your site from other web sites.

Increasing link popularity is a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating process but is definitely worth the time and effort when you see a dramatic increase in traffic.

Link popularity is very important with regards to search engine placement or ranking. Most Search Engines including Google, place much importance in a Website’s link popularity. They use the number of outgoing and incoming links to a Website to determine the importance ( relevance ) of the Website for a particular keyword or keyword phrase. However, incoming links are more important than outgoing links.

The Search Engine Google, uses its PagerRank (PR) as a measure of the link popularly of a Website. If you have the Google tool bar installed on your browser, you can easily see the PR of any site you visit on the Web. You can download it here. http://toolbar.google.com . The PR of a site ranges from 0 to 10. The higher the number, the better. A grey PR bar means the site has not been indexed, been dropped or has been banned.

WHY LINK POPULARITY

Search Engine builders, continuously research ways to make their search engine result pages (SERPs) relevant to users. Different methods have been employed to determine most relevant pages.
Methods such as keywords in title, keywords in metatags, keywords in filename, keywords in headings, keywords in links, keywords in content of pages etc.

Webmasters have found ways to manipulate these, thereby improving their ranking in the Serps. The latest method is link popularity.
Obtaining quality links from good Websites is not easy. A good Website would only link to you if convinced there are some benefits for his site or his site visitors. However, Webmasters have again found a way of beating this latest hurdle. They do this through reciprocal linking. I see search engines rejecting reciprocal linking in future because this is an artificial way of boosting link popularity. The only sure way for the search engine to ascertain link popularity will have to be one way incoming links.

DOs AND DON’Ts OF SITE LINKING

1. Don’t do reciprocal linking with sites that spam. Your outgoing links to unethical sites could get you into trouble with the search engine.

2. Don’t link to FFA link farms. You might be penalized by the search engines.

3. Keep a close watch on your link partners always. Link to relevant and complimentary sites. The higher the PR of the site, the better.

4. Obtain one-way incoming links when possible. It’s the best. Use anchor text in links.

5. Most important of all, create good original and unique content and one way incoming links will come naturally.

RECIPROCAL LINKING

Reciprocal linking is simply exchanging links with other webmasters in order to boost link popularity. It involves sending e-mails to webmasters of sites with relevant and complementary content

HOW TO DO RECIPROCAL LINKING.

Write a nice and polite e-mail to the Webmaster you wish to exchange links with. However, take note of the following points.

1. Visit the sites you want to exchange links with. So that you can have an idea of what the site is about.

2. Before visiting the sites, download the Google and Alexa tool bars. The Google tool bar gives you the PR of the sites. The Alexa tool bar gives you an approximation of the site’s traffic and sites that are linking to it. Alexa tool bar download here. www.alexa.com

3. Mention one or two things about the site in your e-mail. Explain how beneficial link exchange will be for both sites and site visitors. You can put a link to the site before sending your e-mail. Tell the Webmaster where to locate the link. Provide the keywords or keyword phrase with which you want to be linked.

4. Make it known on your site that you are willing to exchange links. you can use a “link to us” or “reciprocal linking” link. You can also use a web form so that potential link partners can fill in their details.

POINTS TO NOTE.

Most site do not have their contact email on their sites because of spammers or email harvester software. You can contact webmasters through their “contact us” form or use www.whois.com to obtain information on how to contact the webmaster. You can run your link popularity campaign through third parties such as www.linkexchange.com . Their prices seem a little bit on the high side. You could also use software such as Zeus and Arelis.
These software automate most of the manual tasks that go into building link popularity. However, care must be taken when using them. One could be labeled a spammer when used wrongly.

ONE WAY INCOMING LINKING

One way incoming links, are the best type of links to have for your site. They increase your PR and link popularity. They indicate to the search engines that your site is an authority on the keyword or keyword phrase used to link to you. However, it is the most difficult to acquire. You can build your one way incoming links using the following strategies.

1. Build good quality websites or web pages with original, unique content. With great content, other webmasters will naturally refer visitors through links to your site.

2. Provide a free, useful service or tool on your site. For example, a link popularity check tool. This will bring repeat visitors and other webmasters will refer visitors to your site.

3. Give away something for free at your site. It could be a quality e-book, a useful software, software trial download, or a gift in exchange for links. You may give out the gifts after ascertaining that they have linked to your site. Some webmasters might bring down the links after collecting the gift. But many sites will still retain your links. Though you might not get many high PR sites linking to you, Lots of low PR sites will enhance your link popularity.

4. You can organize an award so that winners will link to you before claiming their prices. Be sure to make your policy on this clear enough.

5. Pay to be listed in niche directories. Provide good topical articles on your site with links to your home page. Give permission to other webmasters to use at their sites .

TO CAP IT

As you go through the web, running your e-business everyday, you will discover that the most successful sites are those that give something away for free. Sites that are authority in their segment of their market are those that provide useful content, or free tools, or free service, or software. Building such sites takes a lot of patience and perseverance. But in the end the reward is immense.

The META tags are used to provide extra information about a web page. There was once a time where a good search engine ranking could be achieved by simply changing the value of the META tags. However these days are long gone. Nowadays the META Tags are decreasing in importance in the eyes of the search engines who are using more sophisticated methods of ranking pages (namely link popularity, optimized anchor text).

There are many different types of META tags but the one that can affect ranking are the Keywords META tag and the Description META tag.

Keywords META tag:

This tag contains keywords relevant to a page. In the past search engines referenced this to determine how to rank a particular page. However many people started to abuse this and stuffed the tag with keywords that were not relevant to the content of the page. This confused search engines and subsequently returned weaker search results. To combat this less and less emphasis has been placed on the Keywords META tag. However this does not mean that it is entirely useless. Here are some reasons to still include it:

* Some search engines still use it

Although most search engines do not use the tag there are undoubtedly still some that do. For this reason place around 15-20 keywords relevant to your site or page into the tag. Do not attempt to cheat the search engines by repeating keywords as this is considered spamming and they may look unfavourably on this.

* Account for misspellings of keyphrases

People can misspell certain keyphrases that you may be optimizing for so it is common to place these misspellings into the Keywords META tag. This allows you to rank in search engine results for misspellings without having to represent them on the actual content of your page.

Description META tag:

In the past this tag was used to specify the text that would appear in search engine results alongside the link to your site. Keywords could be placed into this text to influence ranking. However it was abused similar to the Keywords META tag and has befallen the same fate, meaning it is not as useful as it once was. Some search engines do not display it in their results (most notably Google, which retrieves the text from content on your page) and do not use it to rank a site. Having said that some search engines do still use it so again it is a mistake to ignore it completely.

Descriptions placed into this tag should, strangely enough, be very descriptive of the page or site they reside in. Include a few relevant keywords/keyphrases that you are optimizing for in the description and try to limit its length to 25-30 words. Also try to use no more than two sentences.

Summary:

Although not as important as they once where, the META tags can still influence a search engine when it comes to deciding whether your web page is relevant or not.

Keywords META tag:

15-20 keywords, include misspellings of keywords/keyphrases

Description META tag:

Include keywords/keyphrases, 25-30 words, no more than two sentences.

ONLINE EAVESDROPPING

There’s no better way to figure out what people want than by “listening” in on their conversations.
In the offline world, you do that by listening to your customers, attending conferences, clubs, societies and networking institutions like the Chamber of Commerce or other trade associations.
The online equivalent are forums, discussion groups, chat groups, business clubs, mentoring organizations, membership sites, etc…
When I want to test a new market, product idea or concept – I type in my area of interest plus the words “discussion forum” into Google and find a few active, high quality groups to “listen” in on for a few days.
Look for patterns, signs of frustration and desire – you will no doubt find these very quickly.
You can even ask for opinions of information or services people desire and would pay for – if you are subtle.

COMPETITIVE REVIEW

Believe it or not, you do WANT to find competition. If you are considering a product in an area that seems to have NO competition, then be concerned.
To limit your risk and truly believe there is demand for your idea, you need proof that a market exists AND that they will spend money on your area of interest.
The best proof of all is a past history of spending money, you can find that by looking – even networking with your competitors.
Once you get a read on the top 5-10 competitors in your field, purchase their products and services – find out what they are offering and most important – how you can improve on their offer to help your customers to achieve their desires faster, less expensive, more complete or better way.

BUILD A LIST FIRST

A terrific way to tap into specific ideas for your own products and services is to go ahead and setup a website aimed at your target market, then offer related affiliate products – but most important…
Focus on building a list from the traffic you attract.
Once you have a few hundred people on your list, you can survey them, start a forum, an interactive blog or use any other method to get their feedback on ideas, products and services you could offer them.
My recommendation is to NEVER just leap ahead into developing products that take months to develop BEFORE using the techniques outlined above.
Finally, there is a service that can take the mystery out of finding niche markets and product ideas that has been just launched!
In fact, they even go so far as to offer you pre-packaged books that you can immediately sell, or use the content as you wish in several niche markets.
This can cut your time down by months to getting your own income-generating, niche products to market – it’s an incredible service, well worth investigating…

Being smart about idea generation and testing is what separates the TOP GUNS from everyone else online. If you want to be an elite online business owner, use the techniques above to leap ahead of your competition.

That is correct optimization.
Let’s face it.. The best kind of traffic is free traffic, right? There are a ton of ways to get traffic to your website, but in my opinion, this is the most cost effective. After all, it’s free! Search Engine Optimization requires a great deal of knowledge of how search engines work, but it’s definitely not an impossible feat by any means.

5) Joint Ventures

A Joint Venture is just that you do jointly with one or more parties. This method isn’t only limited to those with their own product, as many people think. The way this works is by setting up a deal with a person who has a very large customer base already. What you do is literally “tap into” their resources. You see, they have already done the hard part (creating a list of people who have already bought from them). Now all you do is simply email them with a special proposal, and have them recommend your product/service to their list. This alone can product thousands of website visitors to your website. And in the end, can yield massive profits for you if done properly.

6) Paid Advertising On High Traffic Sites

Sometimes, you will find a website that allows advertising
on their site. For a reasonable price, they will display
your link and sometimes a description for a weekly or monthly fee.

7)Pay Per Click

This is you do need to pay for some advertising.
And using pay per clicks allow you to drive very targeted
traffic to your website.

8) Google Adwords
Another great way to grab traffic before you have to
shell out your money is by utilizing Google Adwords.

What is a domain name? A domain name is the location of your website on the Internet. Your domain name will be what you become known by online so it’s important to get it right.

Each website on the Internet is labelled with something called an IP address which is the actual address of the website online. A typical IP address looks like this: 159.134.27.64. Remembering a string of numbers like that is difficult so a domain name translates all those numbers into something like www.amazon.com. This is far easier to remember.

Dot what?
Each domain has what’s called an extension. The most well known of these extensions is .com. This, however, is not the only type of domain extension available. There is also:

.net
If you can’t find your preferred .com domain name you could always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might not have the same ring as a .com but is still as just useful as a .com.

.org
These domain extensions were orginally designed for educational and more formal websites. Anybody can register a .org however so you have more options for domain selection.

.info
A more recent introduction to the domain name game are .info domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up overnight but there’s still a huge range of good .info domains available. With a little creativity you could really make a .info work for you e.g. www.moviereview.info.

Bear in mind that most web surfers tend to remember .com more easily than anything else.

#2 Branding vs Business Name
There is an age old debate on the whether or not you should establish a brand name online or use a domain that more actually reflects your real business. Let’s look at Amazon as an example. Amazon sells books online. Most people setting up a business would have chosen say www.booksonline.com instead of www.amazon.com. Amazon has since established itself as a brand name of global recognition – proving the value of building a brand name.

You’ll need to choose between the two. Brand name or your own business name. Consider how your domain sounds, how it might look on a business card and how well it relates to your business.

There’s no one right answer to this question. You need to choose what makes most sense for you, your website and your business in general.

#3 Hyphenated or Not?
This is another area of debate. Should your domain be one single word or should the words be separated by hyphens? There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names very well.
Single word domains are in very, very short supply.

Hyphenated domains names can be slighltly more difficult to explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly harder to establish as a brand name. There’s no shortage of multiple word domains.

The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that searche engines can “read” the domain more easily. For example in a domain like www.foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine can only read the first word “foreign” and that’s it. It can’t tell anything else about the website domain name.

If you hyphenated that to www.foreign-holidays-online.com the search engine can read “foreign”, “holidays” and “online” as separate words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign holidays.

A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as a single word domain name.

#4 Your Domain Registrar
These are the people you pay to register the domain for you. There are dozens if not hundreds of these companies out there so which one do you choose? This takes some research but things worth checking are:

* Do you retain sole ownership of the domain or do the registrar keep some level of control over it?

* Search Google for any horror stories relating to the registrar

* Does the registrar allow you to transfer the domain to another registrar?

* Is there an online control panel for domain administration?

* How easy is it to change the domain Name Servers?

Shop around for domain registrars. What you really want to find is a previously satisfied customer to ask questions before you buy.

#5 Cheap Domain Names
You can save a lot of money on the domain names you purchase. A typical .com domain costs about $15 to register from most registrars. However you can get the same domain for as little as $7.95 from other, very reliable, companies.

Oddly enough some of the cheaper domain registrars are more reliable, have fewer horror stories and offer equally good customer service as their more expensive competitors.

Are there any disadvantages in using a discount domain registrar? Will it affect your website in any way? The answer to both is a definite No.

Let’s be honest. There’s three types of people in the world.

* Yahoos
* Googlers
* People who are neither, or both.

I’ve been lurking in forums, and I realized something – they seem to be a lot saner than I am. But then, almost everyone is.

I’ve been a Google gal for a while. There. I said it. And why not? Google has been good to me.

But Yahoo finally has me convinced that they are at minimum, the top contender for the title of heavyweight search engine champion of the world. I now take them very seriously for many reasons.

What really has the potential to turn me into a type 2 or 3 is the attention Yahoo pays to RSS. Like everyone, I heard the big announcement back in February of this year that Yahoo was developing an RSS Directory, and had re-launched their Beta RSS Headlines module of “My Yahoo!”.

Still, I took my time hopping on the “marketing through RSS” bandwagon, though I’ve had feeds on most of my sites since late 2002.

When I finally started using my feeds during some research, I ran across Yahoo’s “Add to My Yahoo!” button on many sites that also carry the orange “XML” insignia,

And I have to say, it shocks me how easy it seems to be to get Yahoo to pay attention to your feed.

The folks at Yahoo tell you that they are forming an RSS Directory on this page: http://my.yahoo.com/s/publishers.html#find

The page goes on to tell you that getting your feed included is as simple as adding your feed to your own “My Yahoo” Page.

You may be thinking, as I was, that this can’t be the same Yahoo we’re talking about. The one whose search engine many secretly hoped would fail, in the off chance that we could go back to the Google-on-Yahoo days? (Don’t look at me. I’m not THAT much of a Google gal.)

But yes, the same Yahoo whose directory many found so difficult to get into in days of yore, lists your feed in their directory almost immediately.

Furthering my investigation, I blew the dust off my own Yahoo page, unused since 2003, scrolled down to the bottom, and clicked the “choose content” button.

They didn’t even try to hide it. In five steps, taking me less than a minute, my link was added.

Under the first section of the options for “My Front Page”, under “My Yahoo! Essentials”, was “RSS Headlines (BETA)New!”. I chose that (step one), and on the next page, all I had to do was type in my news feed, (step two) click search (step four), and then when the page re-loaded, click on the “Finished” button (step five).

I logged into my site’s control panel and checked the logs that show my most recent visitors. I saw the line “YahooFeedSeeker/1.0”, not just at my feed, but at the links it was pointing to, almost immediately.

A few hours later, I went to search the directory for feeds similar to mine. A search for “traffic secret” popped my site up – now that is fast inclusion.

I noticed the next day that every time I updated the portion of my site that has the feed, the number of visitors on that page doubled. So it looks like if you’re not in a crowded niche, now is a great time to add your feed – there were about 48 results for “internet marketing”, but only 7 for “sunglasses”.

Once you’ve submitted, don’t forget to stick one of the “Add to My Yahoo!” buttons in a visible spot on your web property. The following link will take you directly to the instructions at Yahoo:
http://my.yahoo.com/s/publishers.html#promote – or if you’re as lazy as I am, get Yahoo to do the work for you- http://my.yahoo.com/s/button.html .

Want to search Yahoo’s RSS Directory for your site or others? Just go to your “My Yahoo!” page, find where you added the RSS Headlines block and click “Edit”, usually in the upper right hand corner of the block of content.

That will take you to a new page. Now, where you would normally type a URL, type your keyword, or if you know a site has a feed but don’t know the address, type in the home page.

Advanced users can also click on the Import feature to import feeds through their .OPML file. You can display up to 50 feeds per page, but there does not appear to be a limitation on how many feeds you can include in Yahoo.

When does a browse-able version of Yahoo’s RSS Directory open, and how much more traffic can you expect when it does? I haven’t heard any speculation on when the Beta period will be up, but I’d be willing to be it will be soon.

My suggestion? Add your link now, while Yahoo appears to be taking all comers.

Does this convert me back to my Yahoo-loving days of yore? Not quite yet.

But the ice that formed over the Yahoo spot in my heart… slowly… melting…
