No Nick Actually Its the reverse of your question,free sub domain sites get page rank in lately but the site with original or root domain with good content got good page rank within 2 to 3 months of time.Recently One Of My Site Got [PR-1] And Another Site Got-[ PR-2] On 1'St January 2009.
