Do link Exchange are good or not ?

Well my cousin Amit Bhawani who is a successful SEO in India, say's you should never do link exchange, it takes viewer to other site, i mean it catches more attraction towards the external link. i believe my cousin. What do you say.

I belive that link exchange is always good... just dont over do it there is some limit of links going out from your site like 20-30 not more... than it is better to make directory of links exchanging.
You need to get incoming links to increase popularity and traffic and without link exchange it is almost impossible.

but u must take care abt the link

the link u r exchange should be related to ur site

for example :: if u have a photo site...then u must exchange link with
other photo site not with any other site, like movie or softwares

there is no harm in link exchange and it also increase the traffic to the site but it should be related to the subject which is present in your site....
