I am going to host a big forum and need to find a good hosting account.
What are your views on Downtownhost.com website hosting solutions?
What will be better: shared or VPS hosting?
Is it the company I can rely on?

the comparison is very good way to know what is better. And make a notion of the market.
Take a look at glowhost.com website hosting solutions - they could be good for running vBulletin, phpBB, etc. boards.
Contact their support and they will find the best fit for your needs.

Think that VPS would be much better for running forums.
The best option for this is 7host.com - they offer really nice VPS solutions.
The company has the team of professionals who know how to keep their services on top.

Think that it will be reasonable to choose downtownhost.com VPS hosting - it will give you more freedom and advantages while running a forum.
The uptime is excellent, their promise of 99.9% is correct.
Overall reliability is great, the control panel is easy to use, and useful, things work the way they say they will - basically impressed with these guys.

When you go to their homepage, do you feel like you are looking at a professional company that you could trust with your money and website? If no. Why? Is it because there website looks dodgy or because there terms and conditions seem to be very vague indeed.

The best is linux vps hosting from 4Goodhosting dot com because linux is much cheaper and secure for forum hosting so I highly recommend this.

The main thing is to check to see if they are available at all before you commit to the host. You will definitely need SSL if you plan to collect credit card information on your site.
