I think that $2.99 offer is only for .info domain. For .com or other common domains, still it costs you more than $7 or $8 depending upon the coupon codes.
No, I saw on another webmaster forum under frebies section that someone give us coupon code to get .com domain for $2.99 only, that's for last month, I don't know if this month they offer same coupon code.
And .info domain just cost $0.99, not $2.99.
