This is a good promoting way, especially for newbies. usually, people like buying domains and hosting in same site, no reason, it is just a habit. Only experts are familiar with such way, and buy them in different sites.
You are right in some way, but even experts prefer to be on the same server for both most of the times as they also don't like to be in different sites for each one
