How to check backlinks

Hi friends can any body tell me how to check back links of a certain website means how many sites linking to a particular site?

when john you can check the back links from a simple way that is type link:your site name in google search ,hope it will help you.

Google Webmaster Console (http://www.google.com/webmasters)- absolute leader for checking backlinks. Webmaster console is probably the most accurate source for backlink checking. The big downside is that you can only check backlinks for your own websites. Also, some people say that its yet another way for Google how to get more information about your site - if you are doing something dodgy, be careful.

Hi John you can do this by 3 ways , i am having a software for this and i time to time check back link status for my clients and you can do this in 3 ways first you can purchase a software for backlink checking, second way is you can check back link from any online webmaster tool (http://www.searchenginegenie.com/), 3'rd way is you can check it manually just type (link:www.yoursite.com) in google search it will show you the result.

you are most welcome ....Actually there is another reason available for this...it happened if that site added their links in NoDofollow site then their will be no benefit of it adding any links in such sites if that site added his links in Dofollow site then google crawler will easily index them but google has a mad crawler it does work on its wish.

Thanks for the information about checking backlinks. But the method of checking it by entering 'link:www.sitename.com' is not produceing exact result for my website, I think.

No it gives exact result according to google's rule but some times it give strange result i also try and feel that way i dont know what is wrong.

I don't think we earn from back links but just check where the traffic to our blog or site page comes from, a measure to know which group of visitors are interesting in our contents.

Hi archy22 you are absolutely right and i earned $ 3 to $ 5 from personal link exchange...i had a blog with page rank -1 which is page rank 0 because i am not updating for lack of time, so i was exchanging with one person and earned few dollars and you also can do this but for this you need to have a custom domain name.

you can check backlinks by the following link and I often check my blog backlinks through it.besides, you can check pagerank, too.

I'm not sure your links in other sites are effective. maybe it will count only effective backlinks.

as I know, backlinks are those visitors links to your blogs or websites. The more backlinks you get and the higher pagerank you will have. but it is not the only element.

Well i added my blog around 6days ago to google and now i made a search to see my backlinks and what i got is that my site is not in the index of google.

After reading your reply yesterday i was trying to use the tool but it has many defects and not working properly and showing some error while pulling data and this database error so i will again go there to check it whether its working or not?

i dont know but if i 'm searching in google i 'm getting more than 100 links but in this tool i'm getting few links and most of the links are in my site itself.
