how do you think that the page ranking of a site affects its traffic. how many people visit your site through the search engine and is search engine the best source of traffic for your site

Lots of questions there! Well, page rank is crucial to your position on some search engines (most importantly Google) but it is not considered to be important by other webmasters.

However, it is disliked whenever one's PR goes down whether the webmaster cares about PR or not.

its like when you search via a search engine and go to the website(s) on first page only..!!so if you have a higher PR for a particular keyword then the visitors searching through that would be visiting your site positively

I thinks its like this: if you have good traffic your page rank will automatically increase. And similarly, if your page rank is higher, naturally the new search through that engine will lead the visitor to the front (first ) page who may in turn visit your site. This way if your page rank is higher the traffic is likely to increase.
