I joined on July 2008, so I guess I can enter the contest. So, all I have to do is make a post there to express my interest in participating, then make 30 posts before the end of January and then make another post in that thread after I make my 30 posts?

All you need to do is let us know that you are returning after a long time
And 30 posts in the eligibility criteria at the end of the month.
If someone is making more posts than you and is a returning member he will win it
And btw as you are already active you have only one week to win it ... and as far as i know there aren't many competitors but be more active to have more chances of winning
