as per my understanding, it is all depends on the traffic and also the types of traffic your site is attracting. If you are attracting more people to your site then I don't think it will take long time to add those engines to add your site.
Yup correct even most of search engine include our site if from any specif country traffic is coming and i have been started site but i have not submitted link anywhere but now my site is listed on Google fifth page and at Yahoo it is fourth spot o it is not necessary to submit link to search engine and just work on traffic and get backlinks and manual traffic automatically Search engine will add our site within some days time.
yes totally agree with you. one of my blog is also not submitted but still many people are coming to my blog from google.. but still if someone really wants to get more traffic then we need to follow some SEO and also the keywards techniques.. that helps a lot!
