I get a good project some days ago. The work was from a local company and I designed their 8 pages website. It includes 1 guestbook, 1 contact page and other 6 others page. They paid me total $130 and i think that is good salary. Web designing is a hot profession not doubt.

If you are good in talking and if you can meet the client live maybe you can convince the client and or else bidding in free lance sites and all can go anyways and even inexperieneced people might get more and luck also holds the key here sometimes

I think that depends on the creativity of that designer plus his work experience.

I think it's better if you are a freelance web designer cause you can prize your own work and talk directly to your client and if your professional web designer you can earn huge amount of money it depends on how the customer will pay and you can negotiate the prize with them.

I am having good no of international clients who give me work time to time and I have only 2 to3 Indian clients, sorry to say but all Indian Clients are very choosy and they always talk absurd thing, take the example of this forum when I joined in this forum I had created a thread about my work many people contacted me to give some work and some told to work on a project also but at the time of delivery they back to take the delivery...so i hate some people who behaves this....if some body have not capability to accept an order then he/she should not give it because i had worked very hard on this and at the time of payment told absurd things...anyways Alensot i am not angry as you have given the reason behind it in other thread also, so i know about it.
    Thanks.

Yes programming is very tough as strain to your brain is very bad and one cannot really go long on programming career and this is my opinion as i also know how difficult it is being a programmer, while a designer can still enjoy as getting new designs are all fun

I have one small question. Is recession is affecting web designers too? Are they getting paid less?

Earning status of Professional Web Designer depends on his/her skill in the same field but as there is a Greater demand of the Web Professional now a days so the earning most be a higher one and should meet the expectation of the Professional wed developer too...

If you work online and as a freelance webdesigner it would all depend on your location I guess. Coz my brother is a programmer and also do webdesigning at the same time some of his employer would give him high rate but once they know your location they would lower there rate and thats just bad for own opinion.

I don't think being a freelancer is effecting web designers much in this recession period instead some of them they do make more profits than regular IT professional working fro some company

It really depend on the client but as of my knowledge it does lesser payments are being offered and client tend to offer less now a days.
